I'm willing to bet that this article by Thomas Friedman has already been posted on a thousand blogs already. But I'm going to link to it anyway.
I think it's important to realize what is happening in the world. This op-ed gives a brief summary of what's happening in Europe. Actions that this government takes, whether Republican or Democrat, affects so much of the world today. For so long we have taken this for granted.
We ask all the people of the world to just shut up and let us be America without ever consulting them. I think to a certain extent there is something wrong with that attitude. Afterall, we started a revolution against a government that made decisions for us without representation. Explain to me the difference now.

Well Hymer, I'm not sure if you are labeling me as a know it all or really asking for my thoughts.
ReplyDeleteI could care less what Europe thinks of America. You should read my "An Open Letter to Europe From an American Democrat" post- just scroll down, if you can't find it, let me know, I will send it to you. Europe today is totally a product of American interventionism. And as much as we hate to admit it, we are a product of European power.
That is totally off the subject of Friedman's article. What he is saying, is that the America has been taken out of America. If you can understand that, then you will realize that this isn't about the UN or WWII. America has always been the land of opportunity, even for those who were brought here without consent. When that opporutunity ceases, what happens?
I don't have all the answers, and I hope that you aren't implying that I think I do.
Hymer, thanks for the compliments.
ReplyDeleteI must have read into your question a little too much. I think it was late at night when I was reading it. So I do apologize.
I try to post regularly. Sometimes I'm busy with work and do not get the chance to write. I do wish I had more time.
I try and walk a thin moderate line. That's hard considering Bush is so far right. And it's also hard when anything that doesn't agree entirely with George W. Bush is labeled as liberal and unpatriotic. I'm not a liberal. I have liberal views and I have conservative views. Right now, it's impossible to be centrist because of the polarization taken place.
And I too find myself committing the same mistake of labeling people as one extreme or the other.
